The "Houseboat" was a second-year project and it obviously contained an assignment to design a houseboat.

My vision of a houseboat, as we often see them here in the Netherlands, was one of narrow and introvert, but cosy space. I kept that idea, putting two small appartments on one floating concrete bowl, instead of one. But this was only one version of the design. Next to the idea of narrow dwelling, I imagined that a lot of people could link the charme of living on water with certain luxury and spaciousnes, and that they would want to combine those. That was the reason of adding a second version to the design. Surprisingly, this new version looks just like the duplex one and will float even between or nearby the duplex houseboats. The only difference is a slight vertical line in the facade of the duplex houseboat. On that spot the facade partially reveals the downspout of the houseboat (see the little mark 5 on the drawing).
